Majestic waterfalls and fragrant wildflowers. DeSoto Falls State Park has been acclaimed by many as the most scenic of Alabama's 24 State Parks. Inundated with cascading waterfalls and ravenous canyons, DeSoto also contains the deepest canyon east of the Mississippi (the 650 foot deep Little River Canyon). Visible along the 15 mile western stretch of the DeSoto Scenic Byway (Hwy 176). There are many picnic areas available along the byway with breathtaking overlooks into the canyon.

Desoto Falls State Park soon to become a National Park! The National Park Service has recently purchased about 9,000 acres of land from the Alabama Power Company. The State of Alabama will add the 5,067 acre DeSoto Falls State Park to this land to form the Little River Canyon National Park. The first National Park in Alabama.

Hikers have access to miles of forested trails which are adorned with azaleas blooming in April, rhododendrons in May, and mountain laurel blooming in June. Filling the slopes with a parade of colors during the spring and early summer months. This is without a doubt the most colorful time of year to visit the park.

DeSoto Falls State Park has 78 campsites with water and electrical hookups ($16), 22 rustic cabins and chalets ($85-100), and 25 lodge rooms ($65) that are open year-round. The cabins and chalets can accommodate up to 6 people and are furnished with linens, cooking utensils, outdoor grills, cable TV, electric heat and air conditioning and fireplaces. Visitors enjoy bass fishing, boating, and swimming in DeSoto Lake. The DeSoto Falls State Park, 13883 County Road 89, Fort Payne, AL 35967 (800) 568-8840
