At the border of Southwestern Kentucky and Northwestern Tennessee, are two of the largest man-made lakes in the nation ie. Lake Barkley (58,000 acres) and Kentucky Lake (150,000 acres). Created by the Tennessee Valley Authority with a series of dams which today generates some of the cleanest and cheapest hydroelectric power in the nation.



KY, Land Between the Lakes.

The Land between these Lakes occupies 190,000 acres and 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline. There are 200 miles of hiking trails. Its forests contain 15 campgrounds. The largest are at the Lake Barkley Resort (US 68 to Rt 80) and Kenlake Resort (15 mi W on US 68 and Rt 94).

The Kenlake Resort is located on the west shore of Kentucky Lake and is designed to meet the needs of both outdoorsman and business traveler. Its facilities include 50 lodge rooms ($60), a 90 site campground with showers and electrical hookups, 200 seat restaurant, 9-hole golf course ($12 greens fee), indoor tennis courts, and 200 slip marina. The campground is open from April 1- October 31 ($14 site). Lodge rooms and cabins are open year-round.

KY, Lake Barkley Resort.

The Lake Barkley Resort includes 120 lodge rooms, 80 site campground with showers and electrical hookups, 9 cabins, 330 seat restaurant, convention center, indoor tennis and racquetball courts, 170 slip marina, and lighted airstrip. The Lake Barkley Conventions Center can accommodate groups of up to 500 people. Both resorts are open year-round.

Area wildlife includes buffalo, wild turkey and white-tailed deer. The lake has excellent bass fishing with fair numbers of pike and walleye. An annual non-resident fishing license is $30.
