Oak and maple hardwoods, immense stands of white pines, and
towering hemlock are all part of Mohican State Park. One of Ohio's most scenic State Parks.
Located on the banks of the Clear Fork and Mohican Rivers, this
park vividly captures the effects of the Wisconsin Glacier
which forces carved much of this area over 12,000 years ago. Its steep
cliffs, moraines, and outcroppings remaining as a testament to
its power. The most striking of these features can be found in the Clear Fork Gorge. The
gorge is a National Natural Landmark that spans 1,000 feet and is 300 feet
deep.

Surrounding the state park is the Mohican State Forest which
adds to the seclusion of the park. Its rivers and streams are
especially popular with canoeists. Numerous outfitters are
located nearby to help prepare you for this watery adventure
(along with rentals available at the park). There are also 13 miles of hiking trails. The Lyons Falls trail follows
Clear Fork Gorge and features two waterfalls.
The Hemlock trail leads to the scenic covered bridge, and Pleasant Hill trail follows the lake shoreline and offers
beautiful views of the lake. The park campground has 153 sites with showers, flush toilets, and a dump station
(120 sites with
electrical hookups, $18). Mohican State Park also has a
lodge with 96 air-conditioned rooms ($90), each with a private balcony and color television. 25 - two-bedroom family cottages ($70)
are located along the river in a wooded area. Each of the cottages will accommodate six people. The cottages are heated
for year-round use and contain cooking utensils, towels, bed linens and blankets.
