UT, Uinta National Forest, Scene from the Timpanogos Hiking Trail
There is a beautiful eight mile hiking
trail adjacent the
Timpanogos Campground. The campground has 27 campsites which are reservable and is located off I-15 exit 275, then E. on Hwy 52 to the mouth of Provo Canyon, E. on Hwy 189 for 7 miles to Hwy 92, then 6 mi on Hwy 92 to the campground (for reservations www.reserveusa.com/nrrs/ut/mtti). It leads to the top of Mt.
Timpanogos with many beautiful waterfalls along the path.
Mt. Timpanogos is one of three designated wilderness
areas in the Uinta National Forest. The others being Lone
Peak and Mt. Nebo.
Area wildlife includes elk, black bear,
cougar, bighorn sheep and mule deer that can be found
near by Uinta's waterfalls, alpine lakes, and clear
mountain springs. Anglers find excellent fishing for
brown trout in its streams.
The most stunning of Uinta's scenic
drives is the Mt Nebo Scenic Byway (Rt 015)
that extends 38 miles through some of Utah's most
beautiful mountain terrain. Beginning at Payson, the
byway proceeds south through the Mt. Nebo Wilderness and
Wasatch Mountains to Devil's Kitchen Gorge and Nephi.
Overlooking alpine meadows and valleys on its way past
the 11,877 foot peak of Mt Nebo. There are four
campgrounds on the Mt Nebo Scenic Byway of which the Payson Lakes Campground is the largest with 130

Payson Lakes is also located at the highest elevation at 8,000 feet. The Devil's Kitchen Gorge viewing area
features a small scale version of Utah's Bryce Canyon
with its red-rock pinnacles and spires. The byway
provides an excellent opportunity to view the grandeur of
the Wasatch Mountains. In total there are 34 campgrounds
located within the Uinta National Forest with over 1,000
