Southern Wisconsin (30 mi N of Madison) |
| Acres: |

Wisconsin's largest and most popular State Park. Containing the 360
acre, 45 foot deep, spring fed Devil's Lake. The unique aspect of this
lake are its 500 foot quartzite bluffs that surround the shore. Cut by Ice Age glaciers thousands of years ago. Fisherman
regularly catch northern pike, brown trout, walleye, and largemouth bass which are stocked by Wisconsin State Park personnel. The lake
is the starting point for 30 miles of hiking trails that
crisscross the park.

the lake.
The one mile East Bluff trail is an excellent choice for
viewing the panoramic vistas of the lake and its surrounding
bluffs. Including the park's renowned Elephant Rock outcropping
at the north end. In the winter there are 22 miles of cross-country ski trails open with four different loops for all levels of skiers.
Devil's Lake has three campgrounds with 407 sites ($10), 124 of these with electrical hookups ($12). There are
showers and 9,117 acres to explore. Devil's Lake State Park is
open year-round.
Another attractive area just north of Devil's Lake is Wisconsin
Dells. Named by French explorers who called this area
"dalles" meaning "layers of rock". Its
artistically carved sandstone canyons and cliffs are nationally
renowned for their beauty. Numerous tour boats ply the Wisconsin
River which borders these geologic wonders. A recommended
excursion while camping in the Devil's Lake State Park. Devil's Lake State
