Gooseberry Falls is the most visited
State Park in Minnesota. The park receives over 1
million visitors each year. Taking its toll on
Gooseberry's natural surroundings and those in search of
a backwoods experience.
Notwithstanding, the focal point of the
park are its five spectacular waterfalls. The Gooseberry River
cascades over five escarpments at this popular State
Park. Its 18 miles of hiking trails providing scenic vistas of the waterfalls and Lake Superior. The trails
pass through a dense forest of evergreen, aspen, and
birch trees and are a visitor's passport to Gooseberry's
world of remote natural beauty. Hiking as little as a
half mile into the forest leaves almost all of its 1
million annual visitors behind.
The Gooseberry River was once the
center of the fishing and lumber industries that
prospered throughout the 19th century. The campground has
70 campsites that fill quickly in the summer. It is open year-round. The most
spacious and private sites are at the end of the loops,
(campsites 8, 11, 36, 37, 39, and 63). There are no electrical hookups. Reservations are
recommended and can be obtained by calling (218) 834-3855
